BECON 2017 Prayer Meeting Week 5: Day 2

Topic: The Doctrine of the Son – Part 2

Ministering: Pastor Emeka Egwuchukwu

Text: “And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life” (1 John 5:20).

There are certain deep and rich things in the epistle of John, which may not be open to us until understanding is granted. Understanding is the door way into the things of God, which comprises resources of the divine nature. There are portals that make for the cementing of eternal life within us, which do not open without understanding. Understanding needs to come to us, for our establishment in divine things. This understanding is with the Son of God and is also what the Son of God has come to give. It is not just enough to have the life of God; we have to be established in the life of God. We need understanding so we can know Him, who is true. We need to know Him, who is true, that we might journey into Him. What truly brings us into Christ (that is, coming into soul salvation which takes after the New Birth) is understanding, which translates us from being outside to being inside.

Arrival in God is in degrees because we have to keep moving and abiding. It is a journey of Divine Life which nobody can undertake, except understanding has been given to such a one. We have talked about “Jesus being the Christ“. That is an understanding. We have also learnt that the antichrist spirit keeps men away from this understanding, because it does something that is detrimental to darkness in us. The other understanding we must hold is that “Jesus is the Son of God“. The third understanding that spirits attack is the understanding of “Jesus coming in the flesh“. These three understandings are the tripod stand of the doctrine of Christ. They are core matters of the doctrine of Christ. This is the reason spirits attack these understandings.

John said, “For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God” (1 John 5:4-5). It is the one who believes that “Jesus is the Son of God” that overcomes the world. We must hold this understanding that Jesus is the Son of God. Although He is the Christ, we must also understand that He is the heir (Son) of God because everything about God has been given to Him. Jesus being the Son of God speaks of Him as one who houses everything that is about God. He houses all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge that is of God (that is, the wisdom and knowledge of Divine Life (Colossians 2:3)). This wisdom and knowledge is what is called treasure, which is of great worth. This treasure is not found anywhere else but in divine life.

Jesus is the One housing and keeping the wisdom of Divine Life. You will not find this wisdom anywhere else; not even in heaven. Only the Father keeps it and He has chosen to bequeath them to Christ. This is how the Father gave Him “All Things“. These are things that evil spirits do not want the church to either know or understand. This understanding has to be given to the church because it is the way into the inheritance. There is no inheritance of God, without the understanding of Divine Nature. Whoever will house the life of God has to be the Son of God. God will not give things, such as these, to anyone who is not His begotten Son.

Although angels have knowledge, they do not have the knowledge of God, which Christ houses. The knowledge of God in Christ is the most exact and accurate knowledge of God. Angels have knowledge because they are also priests, and there is no priest without knowledge. They even have a tabernacle. A priest without knowledge is as good as an ordinary man. Knowledge is what makes a priest differ from all others. For anyone to stand in the place of priesthood, he has to be knowledgeable (Malachi 2:7). There are degrees of knowledge among angels. The knowledge they have is some knowledge of God, but not His exact knowledge. The exact knowledge of God is not found anywhere else, but in His House (Son).
This should excite us! As we see how He is in His Son, we will see how much ignorance angels have about who He is in truth. The Son is not just an example and pointer to God; He is the “express image of God” and the “brightness of God’s glory” (Hebrews 1:3).

There are different glories in the terrestrial and celestial realms (1 Corinthians 15:40). The God of Glory made those glories. That glory upon the ark of the Old covenant is not His glory. This is because that testament is not His exact Testament. Let us remember that the testament of the Old covenant was ordained through the hands of angels, and handed over to Moses (Acts 7:53). It was not the Testament in God. Those laws contained in the old covenant have what they mean to men and what they mean to angels. The law of angels can be interpreted for men to use, and it will still be good. This was the case with the Old Testament. If the law of the Old covenant was a shadow, it means everything around it was a shadow including the glory that attended it. To show that the glory was a shadow, it could not last! Take the glory on the face of Moses, for example; it faded! The glory of God, upon the face of Jesus, did not fade away! This is why Paul said, “If the ministration of death or condemnation was glorious, how much more the ministration of spirit?” in this passage, the Old Testament was called the ministration of death when it was placed side by side with the ministration of the Son (2 Corinthians 3: 7-9).

This is the reason spirits do not want the Son to be spoken of! They are after stopping men from believing that Jesus is the Son of God. We must not stop believing that Jesus is the Son of God because that is the message! The reason for this understanding (of Jesus as the Son of God) is because of this world. When you take a hold of this understanding, you take away the present and usher in the New. This is because what Jesus houses is the knowledge of God, in which is the knowledge of the “World to Come“! We are told in Hebrews, “God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,  Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds…”(Hebrews 1:1-2). There are things that are “from” God, but not “of” God. The latter are the things Jesus holds. Heaven is not of God, but from God [Isaiah 66:1-2].

We should seek things that are of God. Do you know that, according to the scriptures, the present heaven is not your home because it will be folded up (Hebrews 1:10-12). The evil spirits set against us are heavenly beings and we need to know that there is nothing we stand to gain if the reason we are fighting is to make heaven our home. We also need to remember that evil spirits were there, in heaven, before they fell. Even though these beings are fallen, they are still heavenly in their substance; this is why they are able to wield control over the earth. This understanding is needed for us to exalt Jesus above the present, which comprises both heaven and the earth. Jesus needs to be exalted in our hearts above this world. The world loses its strength wherever the Son of God is exalted. Evil spirits hate this confession!

Jesus is not an angel. Neither is He an ascended master. He is not a prophet like other prophets, or a teacher like other teachers. He is not a religious leader; He is God! He is the very Son of God and the Giver of life! This is why He came; that we might have life more abundantly (John 10:10). The Bible says, “Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they” (Hebrews 1:4). He is not an opinion maker. Neither is he a political leader, who markets ideologies. What He has is Truth and what He dispenses is God! Jesus is higher than the heavens, and made so much better than the angels. He is not in the class of angels but is the Son of the Most High God. Jesus, the Son of God, was made better with words that are “more excellent“.  It is unfortunate that men can compare Jesus with other men; whereas what the writer of Hebrews could compare Him with were angels. Yet this Jesus is a man that is FAR BETTER than every other man!

Our Lord has a Name higher than other names, even in the “world to come“. We would rather serve our Lord than serve any other. The “world to come” which we speak of is not given to angels, but the Son of God! He reigns supreme and His name is highest, even in the world to come. Being made so much better than the angels is equivalent to Him being so much better than the present. What Jesus has and keeps are the things that will roll away this present. This is why it is written, “But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom. Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows. And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands…” (Hebrews 1:8-10). From verse 8, God began to speak of His Son and, according to the scriptures; the government of Jesus Christ will continue to increase. It is the stone that smashed the kingdoms of this world, at its feet, and continued to grow into a mountain (Daniel 2:34-35).

The Son was not only referred to as God, but also Lord. God was telling Him these things, not because He was either God or the Son from the beginning. God said these things to Him because He has come into the Beginning of all things. The things that are of God are things of the Beginning and they are exactly what the Son has also inherited. God can give to you His things, to bring you to a place where you can share the Beginning with Him. He said to the Son, “And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands: They shall perish; but thou remainest; and they all shall wax old as doth a garment; And as a vesture shalt thou fold them up, and they shall be changed: but thou art the same, and thy years shall not fail” (Hebrews 1:10-12). It is only He, who is from the Beginning that can fold the present. The Father told the Son that He will fold the present. What is inside of the Son is what will fold the present. The years of the Son shall not fail!

It is what is within the Lord that is being made manifest when He is being preached. This is why evil spirits hate His speaking. The believing of Jesus as the Son of God, at New Birth, is what brought us into Him and gave us a stand in Him. We are told, “Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?” (1 John 5:5). You have to believe that Jesus is the Son of God and this believing is only done with understanding. It is different from the believing we did at New Birth because then, we believed without understanding. When your eyes are opened, you are commanded to believe that Jesus is the Son of God. There are evil spirits around this portal of understanding because they know what it can do to you. They know if you hold this reality in your heart, it can transport you into another sphere where they can never reach you. The world wants to occupy men and be occupied by men. This world is not just referring to the material aspect; it includes its invisible aspect also. Man, by reason of the fall, has come unto the governance of the invisible aspect of this world. This world is an arrangement, order and system controlled by a spirit. This world is the brain child of a spirit (Lucifer, but now Satan).

God created the earth. It was when man fell that he came into the invisible arrangement of a system of life that is against God and, as a result, everything given to him was soiled with that system. That is how Satan had the right of way to use any of them. When man fell, all that were given to him came under the reach of the enemy of God. So, if you are only looking at this world from the angle of material things, you will miss the enemy because these things are within his reach. His reign extends over things that are corruptible. This is why we are told, “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world…” (1 John 2:15). The things that constitute the love of the Father are the things within the Son. The one who loves the world is he who has the things of the world in him. The things in the world are “the lusts of the eyes, lust of the flesh and the pride of life” (1 John 2:16).

Lust is the lustre that the enemy has rubbed upon material things to pull us away from our allegiance to God’s love. There is nothing the enemy has not anointed with lust. Satan consecrated these materials so well that they can be used for the worship and service of his purpose just the same way every utensil in the tabernacle has to be consecrated for worship. John admonished that little children should keep themselves from idols (1 John 5:21). The only way out of this world is to believe that Jesus is the Son of God. The god of this world does not want it to pass away but God has said it will pass away! Jesus is the High Priest of better Things to come. When He is unveiled, men receive the understanding of the “world to come“. This understanding defeats the understanding men have of this present world.

There is a way we understand this world and this understanding makes us of this world. The Son of God, however, has come to give us the understanding of another Kingdom, Life and System that will emancipate and deliver us from this world. When you have been delivered in your understanding from this world, then you have been delivered from this world! You will, from that point, know that this present is nothing. A delivered soul cannot vibrate according to the lusts of this world. It is in the place of understanding that this world has its hold on men. It is when you have the understanding of the Kingdom that you see that this world adds no value to you. For instance, it is because of the understanding we have about this world that we handle money the way we do. It is the understanding that is in the Son of God that makes you know that what makes you rich in the sight of God are the things of God you have acquired. Such understanding will not make you envy your brother who is rich in the natural; it makes you to rather pray for him that he is not taken over by his riches.

See how the apostles handled money and natural wealth; they handled it knowing that they have Enduring and Eternal riches, which are in the Son of God. You cannot have God without His Son. If you receive “God” without “the Son“, then you have received another god (not the true God). The Son makes sure there is no other throne in your heart and that you have no other allegiance in your heart except to the Father.

May we receive more help! Amen!
