Text: Hebrews 5:8-14, Genesis 1:26-27; 2:7-25
Although the male and female man were created the same day, their formation did not take place the same day. The Bible says, “Adam was first formed, then Eve” (1 Tim. 2:14). The reason Adam bore the responsibility of the Fall is because he was not deceived. This is why the nature of his disobedience was wilful. Paul, in writing to Timothy, said that the reason he did not allow women teach men in the church is because Adam was first formed (1 Tim. 2:12).
Whoever is first formed is a teacher to the one who is later formed. We must learn to submit to those who attained formation before us. This is the edge that Adam had over Eve; in creation they are both equal, but in formation they are not. The consequence of the Fall was that man became as one of the Godhead (Gen. 3:22). The word, “as”, however, is not the same as “like” because what man became bore no likeness to the nature of God. God inferred from what He said that man has become as a kind of God.
Entrance into the world of gods is the knowledge of good and evil (Gen. 3:5,22). The Tree of Life has also within it the knowledge of good and evil but not like the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil has it. There was a knowledge of good and evil that man knew in the beginning that killed him, but the knowledge of good and evil that the Tree of Life has, has the power to make man live. The Tree of Life has immortality, which the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil does not have.
Even though God wanted man to partake of the Tree of Life, the rule was that he should not have eaten of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. Both Adam and Eve were tempted but in the temptation, only Eve was deceived. James told us that “every man is tempted when he is drawn by his own lusts and enticed” (James 1:4). This means that man was tempted in the Garden. It is not a sin for lust to have conceived within a soul; it becomes wrong when it gives birth. You must be resolute to abort the baby of sin, which the enemy seeks to birth through you.
That the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil had the power to tempt means that it belonged to a god. It was not just disobedience that killed Adam, there was something in the Tree that he partook of that killed him. This is why Peter spoke about “being born, not of the corruptible seed but of the incorruptible”, implying that there is such a thing as the “corruptible seed” (1 Pet. 1:23). This seed was what the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil had. When Adam was created, he was neither born of the corruptible nor the incorruptible seed but had to choose which of the two would beget him.
Adam was created and as a living soul, he was well acquainted with the realm of the spirit. He had age in the spirit, which implied he had capacity for the Tree of Life. This is also why the serpent could tempt him with the knowledge of Good and Evil because he was of age/had the capacity to know and appropriate Good and Evil. Interestingly, although the serpent spoke to the woman, his real target was the man; he only spoke to the woman as a way to reach the man. This is why when she ate the fruit of the tree, nothing happened until Adam partook of it; that was when their eyes became open (Gen. 3:6-7).
It is also good to know that it was not only Adam that was interested in the Tree of Life, Satan was. He had been lusting after this Tree before man was created and he intended to achieve that through man. Satan’s right of way into the world/the earth today is temptation. His right to tempt man is recognized by God; that is why there is no amount of prayer/fasting that can stop him from tempting you as a believer. This is why he was the “unseen” friend in the Garden of Eden, which Eve could not discern but Adam knew.
Both Adam and Eve had a measure of life within them because no one can access eternal life without possessing life, in a measure. They (Adam and Eve) were not just believers in God, they were “knowers” of God. The day knowledge enters the heart of a man, the realm of the spirit becomes aware of him. As you fellowship with the knowledge of God, your presence in the realm of the spirit is registered.
Revelation 12 describes the prophecy of casting down the great red dragon to the earth (Rev. 12:1-13). The dust which the dragon was cast down to, is the nature of men who are carnal in their mind. Satan stays in the air, because it is a vantage position to devour men who are moving from the earth to heaven. This is why Peter said, “Be sober for the devil is prowling around like a roaring lion, seeking whom to devour” (1 Pet. 5:8). He seeks to feed on spiritual believers because he wants to continue through them. He is able to continue when men remain carnal and walk in disobedience to God.
The way to win this war is to continually starve the devil. He is starved by consistent obedience to the sayings of God. It is very dangerous to be carnal – for a man who is carnal is mincemeat for Satan.
The Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil has the capacity to make one a god (Gen. 3:5). To be a god does not mean one is God. Adam and Eve having fellowshipped with God, had a perception of God, which Satan relied on to tempt them. This is why he said “you will be as gods, knowing good and evil” (Gen 3:5). The knowledge in this tree is still preaching till today.
Satan is the god of this world. When he offered Adam and Eve of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, he was offering them his kind of godhood. The tree is potent with godhood. The tree was potent with lust and it could have been resisted but because it was planted by satan, it was angelic in nature and this nature was higher than the sinless nature of Adam and Eve. The angelic life was higher than the living soul (Psalm 8:5, Heb. 2:7).
The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil was of the seed of satan. It was this seed that was generated from the multitude of transactions he had when he fell. There is the seed of the woman, and there is the seed of the serpent. The serpent here is not ordinary, otherwise it would have referred to every snake that can be found in the jungle. The coming together of a man and a woman makes the weaving of the body and soul possible for the spirit to dwell. This is why God takes sexual union seriously and will judge fornicators and adulterers (Heb. 13:4).
The evil nature in the serpent was higher than the nature of life that Adam and Eve had within them. It was a temptation because what Satan presented was more/higher than what Adam had. Adam should not have allowed his wife fulfil his lust; he should have fought for her by taking authority over the serpent. The seed of the woman, that God spoke about, was referring to a man who is conceived by a woman without the interference of a man’s seed. This will happen because God will bless the woman and put life within her. Mary fulfilled this prophecy (Luk. 1:42).
This seed of the woman is now Christ (the seed of God), raising many like unto Him. This method of God raising seed to Himself, by the seed of the woman, was employed because Satan propagates himself by wisdom. To bruise the head of Satan is not a religious exercise; it is to be raised above satanic wisdom. Satan’s head and thought patterns coming under your feet is what bruising his head is all about. Living above Satan’s thoughts is what overcoming him truly means. The peak of Satan’s power is his head because everything he offers for deception, stealing and killing comes from there. It is not possible, however, to come over the wisdom of a god (that Satan is) except we come into the wisdom of a higher God.
The Tree of Life was strong meat, which full age is needed to access (Heb. 5:14). The Good and Evil that our senses must be exercised to discern is far more than what we know as good and evil. Good in this realm is God because the Bible says God is Good (Psalm 34:8). Satan is called the “devil” because he is a “doer of evil” and this evil is far more wicked than what we understand. A man can be doing evil and it is not obvious to other men. Things that are considered evil in the spirit are often celebrated among men. To do evil is to truncate the will of God. A doer of evil is one who loves himself above the rest (1 John 3:6-8).
An evil man is he who does what the devil does (1 John 3:6-7). Make decision to cut off from iniquity lest you become a being that can never turn. The sins that John spoke about, in his epistles, are sins that can make a believer change parentage in the spirit. A believer is evil when he forgets what Jesus has done on the cross and is concerned only about himself. You can know devils by what they do. In the same way, whoever goes ahead to offend life is of the devil. Anyone who blocks you from the flow of life is of the wicked one.
This evil is what Jesus hated when He loved righteousness (Heb. 1:9). What you have to do is make yourself available for the watering of the seed of life that is within you. We know those who are children of God, in their souls, by what they do. For instance, there are souls that give pastors trouble more than others. Those souls cooperate with the messengers of the devil sent to buffet the pastors.
This evil of loving oneself is what gives birth to envy amidst brethren. Envy can make a soul cast a stumbling block on the path of another saint. It is evil to seek to scuttle the prosperity of another believer in life (the knowledge of God and Christ). You must make up your mind as a believer to love the Good and hate the Evil. There will be no sitting on the throne without loving what God loves and hating what He hates. There are things God has hatred for (Prov. 6:16-17). One of the things that God hates is one who sows discord among brethren (Prov. 6:17). Souls that are like this will not be admitted into the fellowship of the Godhead, who have a cord binding them together.
