The Path to Sitting on the Throne of David

Transcript Summary
- The Lord God promised David a throne – one that he never sat on (Psa. 132:10-12). David was given that throne in custody for his Son in the flesh – Jesus (Luke 1:32-33, Rom. 1:3). God gave a gift to the house of David, but that did not mean that David’s person would get it. It rather meant that it was within him. The phrase “of the fruit of thy body” in Psalm 132:11 means out of David’s loins.
- Jesus referred to Himself “an offspring of David” and also “a root of David” (Rev. 22:16). Being a root means that if David is traced, He is the originator of David. Therefore, He only projected David ahead of time. Jesus is the original David who later came to be an offspring of David.
- David is not an ordinary being; he is a very strong manifestation in the program of God. The fact that Gabriel mentioned “David” in Luke 1:32 shows that David was a known work in the Spirit.
- When Jesus was on earth, the spirit, nature, or inheritance called “David” was the one in manifestation. He was the root and offspring of David, the bright and the morning star (Rev. 22:16). There is a lot to the blessing that David epitomised.
- God cultured David as a young boy, into a nature that was drawn from a root in the Spirit. That entity had not come to earth, He was one whom God had promised to come. David was raised to be a figure of Jesus and, at the same time, he was to bring forth Jesus in the flesh. If David was not what he was in the flesh, he would not be the father of Jesus. David is a case study in the Spirit.
- From the scriptures, we can see that David was a man who towered higher than his generation because he had favour and encountered mercy from the Lord God. He had favour to develop a heart that wanted God’s love, which is God’s will. He had an insight into the will of God. He was a man after God’s heart who would do all His will (Acts 13:22). Juts like David, Jesus also said that He is about the Father’s will and was to finish His work (John 4:34).
- In the strength of the covenant God made with Israel, David received grace to fulfil the covenant. He did not practice the covenant the way Israel did; he fulfilled the covenant by receiving insight on how to please God. David operated with the facility and endowment of mercy into fulfilling the law because he was armed with mercy.
- David served his father’s house and flock. He gave his life for those flock and protected them. He loved them more than himself. He fought lions and bears to protect them, and God saw his heart. David’s attitude towards saving the flock can be likened to when Jesus said His Father gave Him the commandment to lay down His life for His flock (John 10:18).
- God gave David the opportunity to serve his father’s house and keep the sheep, and he did it so well. After he had fulfilled his course, he was taken from following the flock to lead Israel. David was a big picture of one who did all the will of God. When he was serving Saul, he was almost killed. But he did not take over the throne when God had not asked him to. He waited patiently, even though he was anointed by God.
- If we are serving someone, we should not take his throne while he is yet seated. These are areas where we fail. David did not rejoice at the fall of Saul; he wept bitterly. He did not want to sit on that throne because the real throne in his heart was to serve God. Those who do everything to outshine others are not ‘Davids’. Every David will want his brother seated and esteemed higher than himself.
- A ‘David’ does not do anything for himself; he moves on the command of heaven. David was wise from his youth; he did not expose himself to that outward manifestation. He did not kill Goliath to outshine Saul. Some people in David’s shoes would have exposed Saul, but that is weak.
- A young minister who attacks all the fathers in the Body of Christ is not a true David. A wrong kind of revelation is what makes such men do that, for they delight in being known of men. A person who is ambitious about leading the body or wants to scheme his/her way into doing so is not a true David. Every ‘David’ should hide behind and not be seen.
- Anyone who has the attitude of self-exaltation should not lead. Instead, we should allow God to make us His servants who would truly serve His people at a very high degree.
- (Psalm 132:11-12). There is no way a person can access the throne if God has not given him/her permission or exalted him/her to sit. Satan (Lucifer) wanted to take the throne, but no angel was permitted (Heb. 1:13). The way to sit on the throne was shown when God sent Jesus. He came down to the lowest part of the earth, and it was from there that God highly exalted him.
- (Psalm 132:11-12). God promised David the throne after he did the will of God. This throne is a weighty promise. To get such a promise, David must have reached an age of maturity. David was spiritual enough to know that what God promised was not the natural throne in Jerusalem. At one time, the zealots wanted to make Jesus king, in a bid to fulfil the prophecy, by making Him sit on David’s physical throne. Jesus rejecting the offer tells us that that was not the throne prophesied about. David had more hunger for a higher throne; he had insight into the dominion that God has.
- David desired something and expressed it to God. God had to make a covenant with David to give him the throne. The throne of God has become the throne of David. It means God has given David His dominion. All of us who are called to be heirs of salvation will sit on David’s throne. Angels must have been astounded when God said that He would give His throne to men.
- It is very impossible for human beings to sit on the throne. In heaven now, the throne belongs to David. No one knew that there was still space after the issue of the seed of Abraham. They gave Abraham the seed, They gave David the throne. It took many years until They found a man. We do not know what we are fetching with the way we are living. We do not know what Satan is contesting against. Hence, we should not company with unserious fellows, dogs who do not have value for holy things, or someone who will not regard the unseen promise.
- David did not see the throne, yet he believed it. Some people ran from this message, they do not know what birthright is; they will cry later. A true David will wait until he sits on the throne. We should not play with it. Esau said, “What is that blessing to me?” (Gen. 25:32). The reason he said that is because he did not see how relevant the blessing (birthright) was to him. He was a vain man. He was profane. Anyone who always checks how relevant the things of God are to his natural life is a profane fellow. Esau could not pass the test of waiting for the birthright to find expression. The benefit and profitability of the birthright did not really show the way he expected.
- Jesus’ coming marked the beginning of the fulfilment of the promise. We should be able to wait and endure till after death. We should not make vain the promises of God. Evil spirits should fear us because they see that we can endure more than the devil and that our resolve is beyond the natural time zone.
- Psalm 132 is the end of the promise. To sit on the throne is the last promise. That sitting on the throne spans beyond everlasting life, it is an eternal promise also. That is what was promised to the Laodicean church (Rev. 3:21). We cannot sit on the throne without the hidden manna, white stone, rod of iron, the tree of life, and the morning star. These are promises, but the end of it all is that we sit on the throne.
- To sit in the throne of God is to have access to a privilege of life that God wants man to come into. To be seated on the throne is not to exert authority; rather, the purpose of the throne is an ability that God gives to find access into the midst of life. It is to come to own life with God. There is a life God wants us to demonstrate, but no one can get it except he sits on the throne. To have access to the throne is to have access to reign. People shrink back from pursuing after God because of the promise of another reign that Satan offers.
- We should never put any weight upon ourselves concerning our needs such that it becomes a burden as we walk the path of righteousness. Many parents do not just want education for their children; they want class/reign. Those who regard earthly class will have an inferiority complex. We should get healed from the complex. No matter the privilege of anyone, we should never have an inferiority complex. The antidote to complex is to fill our souls with God.
- The first person who sat on the throne came from heaven. This tells us how high the throne is. He came from heaven, condescended to hell, and sat on the throne from hell. The next to sit are His children, and He will help them to sit like He is seated. These ones will sit on the throne, not from hell but from the womb.
- We do not all have the same glory. Our measure depends on the point from which we took the lift. Your degrees and your strength on the throne can never be as the One who rose from hell; that is why He is called the first born, the First Begotten of the dead, the Prince of the kings of the earth. The throne of God is not an ordinary place to sit. God gave it to David. He who sat and they who will sit are Davids. Davids are a company of people that God will give access to Him.
- David finished his work, he finished the will, and also did the perfect will. David was able to get there. God is encouraging us not to joke with our birthright; it is very real. To sit on the throne is real. It is so real and can be done because there is somebody who has been raised to give it. Jesus has been raised to give men the throne of God.
Blessings!
