“And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be. [13] I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last. [14] Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.” (Rev. 22:12-14). To enter into the city which we are being spoken to concerning, our souls must acquire certain qualifications. Jesus calls these commandments, “My commandments” (John 14:15). But they were not initially His; they became His commandments because they were given to Him by the Father. This is not only about hearing commandments but about obeying commandments. It is through our obedience to His commandments that we earn the right of way to the tree of life. This means our hearts must first gain the qualification.

When a student is in the process of becoming a doctor, such is taught the art of the profession and how to treat people. Similarly, Jesus Christ is our profession (Heb. 4:14); that is why the life He has called us to partake of is an art that we have to learn. Salvation can be learnt. We are instructed to do His commandments to have the right to the tree of life. This right refers to the ability to make a choice. The revelation that comes to us reveals to us the Spirit of truth (1 John 5:6). We purify our souls by being obedient to the truth, through the Spirit, unto unfeigned love of the brethren (1 Pet. 1:22).

Walking in the spirit means living according to a manner in the spirit (1 Thess. 1:5-6, 2:12, 4:1). God has been emphasising a certain walk in this Believers’ Convention. There is a certain measure that God is looking for. There are fruits that our souls lust after (Rev. 18:14), but God has specific fruits that He desires to see in our lives. In loving His appearance, we must love the things He loves and hate the things He hates. God is emphasising the works and ways of our hearts. When our souls walk in the paths of the Lord consistently in accordance with the word of God and His eternal intention, we would receive cleansing and remission of sins. Oftentimes, when God opens us up, He finds fruits of our own righteousness — these are also fruits of death. Like Jesus, in whom the prince of this world could not find any of his things, God desires the same for us (John 14:30).

The process of cleansing and washing the soul is to completely rid it of all the fruits that it has eaten from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. One could be a believer for many years, yet still eat from this tree.  In the Old Testament, there is a lot of teaching about cleansing. There is a whole process of cleansing. Before the priest could enter the temple, He had to go through the process of cleansing. The priest could not stay too long in the temple; he had to go in and come out at intervals. However, Jesus the High Priest entered the temple once and for all. He entered and no longer comes out because He became the temple. Because of the uncleanness of the priest in the Old Testament, he could not go in and remain there. He even had to go in with a rope and bells to tell if he is still alive. Similarly, we have a time of preparation to prepare for the coming of the Lord. He will not come until we are prepared.

“It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me.” (John 6:45). If we are not able to hear the voice of the Holy Spirit and the revelation of His law on our inside, we will not be able to come towards Him. Our hearts have to keep on learning the path of life through a certain procedure that is in accordance with His word. When we are not learning, we are retrogressing, that is, we are not gaining the qualification that is necessary to come unto God. Any soul that has not gained the qualification of being like the Father cannot sit on the throne with Him. What the commandments of God do in us is to build an internal structure that can enter into the temple to become the temple.

God is the builder of His temple. He is building us as His own temple and as a habitation of God through the Spirit (Eph. 2:22). He is investing and bringing forth materials to build a certain quality of soul that can sit on the throne with the Father. A soul that can go through the eye of the needle is a soul who has gained the exact shape necessary to go through (Matt. 19:24). Any soul that can go through the eye of the needle has gained the requirements to get through into the Kingdom.

The soul of Jesus has the right form and measurements, and that is why an angel was given a measuring reed to take the measurement of the temple (Rev. 11:1). When the soul of a saint achieves a certain measure that is necessary to accommodate God, the Lord will come. The Lord will suddenly come to His temple (Mal. 3:1). To this end, we are continually being built. A certain standard of God comes to measure us and expose the length, breadth, depth and height (of His love) for us to achieve what it takes to accommodate the fullness of God in the flesh (Eph. 3:18-19).

“And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird. [3] For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies.” (Rev. 18:2-3). The nations in Revelation 18 had drunk a certain wine and were under its operation. Wine is spirit. The nations drink the wine that is being served by the world; this is why as saints, it is God’s desire that we stop partaking of this wine and the fruits of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. We must possess the ability to stop eating this tree and partake of the tree of life. This is why the Lord promised that His gospel would be preached in all nations of the earth before He would come (Matt. 24:14).

The Lord is emphasising to us that hunger must be renewed in our hearts this season. The church in Ephesus did not have hunger after some time because they left their first love (Rev. 2:4). The first love is a certain hunger for God. The Lord is bringing us to a place of perfection (Eph. 5:21, 25-27). This is how the soul has to be without blemish – becoming innocent. In the coming years, the Lord will be emphasising holiness much more because there is a constant ongoing battle for our souls. There is a certain level of holiness that the Church has lost; this is why God wants to bring back a certain level of consecration. Paul was an apostle that was separated unto the gospel of God (Rom. 1:1). Holy means separated. One who is holy in his soul has let go of this world and laid hold on another hope – the hope of Eternal Life (Tit. 1:2).

The ministration of the Spirit comes to write the law of God in us; this is the essence of the New Testament (2 Cor. 3:6-9; Heb. 8:10). Revelation comes to write in us the content of God’s life. When God is putting His laws in our minds and hearts, He wants to make our hearts look exactly like His. This is why He wants us to think in a certain way. God does not only want to give us some new thoughts; He wants to change our entire thinking so that we can think according to the Spirit. Walking after the Spirit means thinking according to the Spirit. Taking thoughts according to the flesh is death, but thinking according to the Spirit is life and peace (Rom. 8:4-6).

“Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high:” (Heb. 1:3). God desires to form His character in us. Jesus is the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person (Heb. 1:3). The "express image" means the expression of the very essence of who God is. The original word used to describe this is character. This is not the human character that each person has but the very essence of God. Jesus was the expression of the very essence of God walking in the flesh. God comes to shape in us the character of His essence. In doing this, we undergo pain. When God is shaping our character, He introduces suffering; this is why our souls must enter into the Kingdom by much tribulation (Acts 14:22).

Our souls must acquire all the necessary qualifications to appear at the great feast of the Lamb. On the day of the great feast, we would be scanned to check the colour of our garments. We appear at the feast as a Church but also individually. We see the preparation of the bride for the coming of the Lord in the book of Revelation; she came "arrayed in linen, clean and white" (Rev. 19:7-8).

When the Lord comes to instruct us in certain areas in our lives – like talking more kindly to our wives – we should acknowledge that it is a holy commandment given to save our souls from perdition. God gives instructions in order to reach us. He sees all the barricades we put up. Many of us have erected gates against God; this is why it requires much effort for God to save us. We need to take down those barriers and open the gates of our hearts so that the King of Glory will come in. At the marriage supper of the Lamb, the bride must open up herself so that the groom can come in. This is the same way we need to open up ourselves to God. Opening up our hearts to God means agreeing to take off the veils that are hindering Him from saving us; this is how He will touch down on the wrong natures hiding in our souls.

Rounding Off: Reverend Kayode Oyegoke

"Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judaea, and Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of Ituraea and of the region of Trachonitis, and Lysanias the tetrarch of Abilene, [2] Annas and Caiaphas being the high priests, the word of God came unto John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness." (Luke 3:1-2). The word of God that came to John was the declaration of a tiding. John did not just preach suddenly; he was hearing lines and precepts in the wilderness. The word of God that came is the driver of dominion. What has come to us today is the word of God. The word of God has power, and it comes in the season of kings. It was when King Uzziah died that the word of the Lord came unto Isaiah (Isa. 6:1). In our nation, there is a contention against the establishment of the word of righteousness. This is an indication that we need help.

Some young ministers want to rule or lead the body of Christ by force. They are hungry to be captains of the whole body of Christ. When a minister is not done (complete) on the inside, he should not put himself forward to lead a church. Ministry is not ambition. To some men, ministry is about popularity and fanning the lust of fame, whereas ministry is death to fame; it is about carrying our cross (1 Corin. 15:31; Gal. 6:14). We should be careful not to call ourselves apostles. An apostle is known, not by the name he calls himself, but by his works.
