“The righteousness of thy testimonies is everlasting: give me understanding, and I shall live.” (Ps. 119:144). Our expression of life in the spirit is dependent on our level of understanding. As such, one who is without understanding cannot live in the spirit. If our understanding is little, then our life expression will be little. However, if we possess abundant understanding, we would also live abundantly.
There is a kind of understanding that leaves one in the region of death (Prov. 21:16). We see in Matthew 4:16 that there are those who sit in darkness and the regions of death. To sit in a place is to dwell there by a kind of understanding. This means understanding is what defines our realm of dwelling.
“He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” (Ps. 91:1). Without the light of the everlasting, we cannot dwell in the secret place. No one dwells in this secret place by confession; rather, it is by responding to the light of that realm. Anyone who dwells in the secret place is above pestilence because it is a place of refuge (Ps. 91:6-7). We must pray that we find the light for the dwelling place of this season against the impending doom that is about to fall upon men.
As we ascend in the realm of the spirit, we loosen the hold of the dwelling places of Satan upon us. The abundance of our carnal possessions cannot make Satan fall; it is our abundance in understanding that will bring him down. We should desire to come to the understanding of the dwelling place that the Lord is providing for us this season.
“In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.” (John 14:2). “Many mansions” signifies that there are many dwelling places in God and by mercy, He has given us grace to take places in His dwelling by reason of understanding.
Christ and the Father are both dwelling places, but the highest dwelling place is the realm of God. There is a particular place that has been destined by God for us to dwell and Jesus has gone to prepare it for us (John 14:2). However, we need to journey to attain that place where God is.
The location of a heart would determine the response of the heart to the word (Matt. 13:2-7). One who hears the word and understands it is the one that bears fruit (Matt. 13:23). We bear fruits by understanding. The word coming to us has the potency of making us 100% fruitful. This is the level at which we fulfill the demand of a season.
“So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.” (Isa. 55:11). The word of God accomplishes the purpose for which it was sent. Every word that is being sent has a mission to accomplish. We must understand the mission of the word, which is to give understanding. The amount of fruits borne per season – whether 100, 60 or 30 fold – is via understanding. Fruits are the expression of the life of a seed and those who fully understand the word would respond to it maximally.
Words bring about entrance and every heart must be responsible for the word that is being heard, and be humble at the receiving of it. We should place a premium on understanding. People dwell in darkness because of a negative kind of understanding.
There are different dwelling places and there are peculiar enemies in every dwelling place. For this reason, we must receive understanding and take steps from where we are and journey. We settle in a realm based on our understanding of life. As long as we dwell in a realm, we are not immune to the activities of the spirits in that realm. Disobedience to God as a result of our darkened understanding would make us vulnerable to diseases and afflictions of the devil.
We must lift ourselves from the realm of darkness by obedience if we do not want to be vulnerable to the evil spirits in a realm. Our temptations are tied to our understanding and the realm of our abode. As such, the thoughts and judgements we live by must be upgraded. There is a realm we would attain and become invisible to Satan. The reason why Satan cannot tempt God is because he cannot see Him, for the adversary can only tempt one he can see (one who is present in his realm).
There is a realm of invisibility, even in the realm of spirit and it is this realm that God wants us to attain. We should change our dwelling places by obedience so that evil spirits would not be able to touch us. The essence of our feeding this season is to make us have understanding and live above the realm of darkness, and come into the realm of everlasting.
Whatever a man does on earth is because of a kind of life that he is seeing. Whenever we are tired of the life of the Kingdom, it is because of the reality of another life that we are seeing. A man is committed to the life he is persuaded of. If we are committed to wealth in the natural, we would lay down our lives for it. Every man is laying down his life in one way or another for a kind of life they are seeing.
There is a sort of life that would make a man lay down his life for the reward he can see. The reason we are not committed to the life and reward of God is that we have not seen and understood it as glory. Understanding is a reality. Our response to light would bring about the healing of our souls.
God is raising us to become bondservants. This is the calling upon everyone of us. We are blessed by the apostles because they were bondservants. As such, we all must also become bondservants.
“If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?” (1 John 4:20). If we would sit on the throne, we must be slaves to Jesus. The real meaning of a servant is a slave who serves without reward or wages. The bondservant is one that does not want liberty from service.
One of the ways we are going to be bondservants to our Lord Jesus is to serve under the vessels the Lord has placed over us. We must be subservient and fall under the will of our Master as bondservants.
We must tarry on these words to press out the understanding. We should endeavor to consciously hear the Lord Jesus speaking through our pastors.
