Some believers in our generation who were students were not serious. Some were loafers, tyrants, and did not like attending lectures. The euphoria of being on the campus overtook some, so they were not diligent with their studies. One thing that characterizes a diligent student is soberness. A student who aims at graduating with a first-class does not go around partying everyday; because such a one knows that he/she is in school for a season and if that season elapses, and he/she was not diligent with his/her studies, such would not be counted amongst the best upon graduation.
As it is in the natural, so it is for the spiritual. The Scripture àdmonishes us thus: "Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:...", (2 Peter 1:10). Diligence is a key ingredient for all who would be elected by God. Some people will be diligent in keeping the commandments and precepts of the Lord; while some will not. Those who do not keep the commandments of the Lord diligently will not be able to meet up with the requirements, and so will not receive the reward.
