The Holy Spirit is "the Comforter" (John 16:7-12). We really do not understand the ministry of the Holy Ghost as we should. In the administration of God, there is the ministry of the Holy Ghost in the era of the milk of the word. This ministry can be called the ministry of the Holy Ghost amidst children. His activities at this level include the New Birth, infilling of the Holy Spirit, gifts of the Spirit, baptisms and other things that the Holy Ghost does during the season of the milk of the word. These are the things that confirm His administration at the level of the milk of the word.

The gospel cannot be preached without the Holy Ghost being sent down from heaven (1 Pet. 1:12). This means there is also the ministry of the Holy Ghost in the season of Christ. The Holy Ghost becomes a teacher in the season of Christ; He begins the unveiling of Christ. Without Him, we will not have an idea of who Christ is. Christ is the anointed One. God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost, not with oil (Acts 10:38). Anointing with oil signifies a portion or measure of a thing. The Holy Ghost can come in many ways such as fire, water or oil; He is dynamic.

When Jesus was anointed with the Holy Ghost, He was anointed with the person of the Holy Ghost and not a portion. As a result of this anointing, Jesus went about doing good (Acts 10:38). “Doing good” and healing the sick are not the same thing. "Doing good" means He was doing tidings. It also means He was teaching. He taught good things which are the teachings of everlasting life. It is good to teach doctrine, even though men like miracles more than teaching. Miracles will not make a person; it takes words and teachings to make a person.

The work of the Father is words (Jn. 14:10). The Father did good with the words that He spoke to the Son. As such, the Son also learnt how to do good. For this to happen, the Son was anointed with the person of the Holy Ghost to be able to do good. That anointing of the person of the Holy Ghost was what made God to be with Him.

The activity of the Holy Ghost at the level of Christ also has to be understood. At this level, He comes as a teacher and as the seven Spirits – the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD, and the Spirit of the Lord (Isa. 11:2; 2 Cor. 3:17). There is a clear difference between the ministry of the Holy Ghost at the level of Christ in the Holy Place and the ministry of the Holy Ghost with regards to children.

The Holy Ghost is called the Spirit of truth because He has to teach us, and He is dynamic in teaching everyone because He can minister to children and other classes of people at the same time (John 15:26; 16:13).

The Holy Ghost would teach us at the level of Christ and at the level of everlasting life. It is when we begin to come into everlasting things that we begin to see the Holy Ghost as the Comforter (John 14:16). The Godhead (the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost) are all Comforters when they are dealing with souls at the level of everlasting things. In John 14:16, Jesus called the Holy Ghost "another comforter" because He is one of the Comforters in the ministry of everlasting life. The ministry of the Holy Ghost in the season of everlasting life is the ministry of a Comforter.

Every soul has a warfare of iniquity to fight before it can finally come into rest. This is why we need the Comforters to comfort us with everlasting things. The world is the machine prepared by Satan to make souls not to rest. A man may think he is resting when he is wasting away. Any man who has not come in contact with the ministry of the Comforters is wasting away in this world. Our Lord Jesus did not waste away when He was on earth because the Father guarded Him.

Jesus did everything as it was written; He did not think of any step for Himself (John 5:30). As the Father was guarding and leading Him, He also cooperated with the Father. This is where many of us miss it; we do not cooperate with God’s guidance. The reason why God said "His thoughts for us are of good and not evil" (Jer. 29:11), is because we would naturally think His leadings are evil. The thoughts He has for us are to lead us to an expected end, which is God’s expected end. This expected end is what we call rest. Our souls have gotten used to unrest so much that we do not have an idea of what rest is. The world tells us that there is nothing beyond the realities it preaches so that every man will continue to labour in iniquity.

The soul is meant to become a soul that will not only live but also follow on till it abides. Every soul needs to abide. How to live and abide are lessons that we must learn in the season of everlasting life. We must learn these two aspects of everlasting life to come into rest. When everlasting righteousness is being brought in, we are being taught how to live. The soul lives by righteousness. Similarly, the soul has to learn how to abide by everlasting righteousness.

How iniquity is going to be pardoned is by obeying sayings. The things that are being said to us are comforts being brought to us. “Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you” (John 16:7). The word "expedient" means it is inevitable. Jesus Himself was a Comforter when He was on earth. He was a Comforter because He was speaking words of comfort. However, He had to give way for the Holy Spirit to come.

It is when the Holy Spirit expresses Himself as the Spirit of everlasting life that He really acts as the Comforter to us. He is regarded as the Comforter whenever it is in association with the truth. As such, He is called the Spirit of truth (John 16:13). Truth are the everlasting things He says as the Comforter. This means only everlasting things can really comfort the soul of a man.

When we arrive at the point where we are seekers of God, nothing else will comfort us except everlasting things. The more we grow up and mature spiritually, the more we find futility in natural things. This is why the Lord withholds certain things from us until we grow up spiritually. It is mercy that ensures that we do not come into certain earthly status until much later in life. It is salvation that does not allow a soul to go wherever it wants. If the soul is allowed to explore the earth, it will waste away. At the end of the day, it will say it does not have pleasure in them (Eccl. 12:1).

The ministry of the Holy Ghost to us in this season is the ministry of the Comforter. This is the Spirit of truth or the Spirit of the everlasting Father who is to give us everlasting things. "Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned: for she hath received of the Lord's hand double for all her sins." (Isa. 40:2). To speak comfortably is to speak everlasting things. When a preacher’s mouth has not been ordained to speak everlasting things, he cannot speak to Jerusalem. It is not everyone who can speak to Jerusalem. This is because to speak to her, one has to know her God and have the things of her God.

“And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world. Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.” (1 John 4:3-5). The spirit of the antichrist is the spirit that is driving this world and making it look like it is everlasting (not passing away). The antichrist spirit is the spirit that is in the world; it comes to fortify the world and drive the agenda of Satan further. The world is designed to drive the soul of men until they become wicked ones.

The opposite of speaking comfort, which is the work of the Holy Ghost, is to speak of this world. It is the spirit of the antichrist that speaks of this world; this is the spirit that speaks against comfort. When one is hearing everlasting things, one is hearing things of comfort and rest. When a man rejects everlasting things, he is rejecting rest for his soul. The way to overcome the world is to come into rest. When one has not come into rest, his warfare against the world continues because he has not yet overcome it.

What we are currently hearing is the incorruptible seed. This is what will help us to overcome the world. In the days of Christ, we heard a lot about not loving the world. There is a level of overcoming that Christ enables a man to have. The teachings that we are currently hearing is a higher one for a higher overcoming. The commandment not to love the world is an everlasting commandment (1 John 2:15). Similarly, the commandment to keep oneself from idols is also an everlasting commandment (1 John 5:21). The prince of this world has to be judged inside every one of us. Anybody who is going to lay hold on everlasting life has to be ready to tarry in the place of hearing till he can obey and then overcome.

Blessings!
