Isaiah 28:9-10

“Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts. [10] For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little…”

Isaiah, being stirred by the spirit of God, was given a wisdom of building in the spirit; a wisdom of how God builds souls.

Why Men Wrestle With the Message of the Salvation of the Soul

People who argue about scriptures do not have much clarity to the work of God in the soul of man. As a matter of fact, many of them have not seen what the soul of man is. Many of them, when they teach about the soul, categorise it as the mind, and the spirit is taught as the heart.

Ezekiel 36:26

“A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh”.

This verse is talking primarily to the Jews who Ezekiel was moved by the Lord to write to.  But the interpretation is bigger than what we have given to it.

Though those who wrote scriptures in the Old Testament were dead in their spirit, they had stature in their soul; they had growth, stature and life– this is not the very life of God that we have in Christ, but God measured out life through dealings and they were separated unto God. It was out of that life (building) in their soul that the Lord commissioned them to write.

Peter was admonishing the brethren to be mindful of the words spoken by the holy prophets in 2 Pet 3:1-2.

1 Peter 1:9-12

“Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls. [10] Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you: [11] searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow. [12] Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into”.

What the prophets in the old testament prophesied aforetime were soul salvation documents. All the prophets had a good grasp of soul salvation.  Those who relegate and talk down on the scripture of the prophets may not have seen the soul for what it is and by implication, are ignorant of the salvation that the soul ought to come into.

Isaiah was not ignorant of the soul and the salvation that ought to occur in the soul. The things that the prophets prophesied were not things they witnessed (physically). Moses for example was not physically present at creation; an angel came to give him the details of what happened, and he wrote it down. He wrote; Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Deuteronomy, Numbers, knowing what the soul is.

Over 90% of Christians do not understand what soul is, and because this understanding is limited and scarce, entrance into the scripture is also limited. This is due to the fact that over 90% of scripture is written for the soul and to save the soul.

The prophets who prophesied had the spirit of Christ in them (1 Pet 1: 11). Some parts of scripture might appear like mere stories, if soul salvation has not been painted, and all we may do is fetch principles of how to live a good life from them.

God does not leave Himself without a witness. Once a principle is put in place, He bears a witness to it, because He knows we still don't have the understanding that can grant us access into the scriptures.

Reverend Kenneth Hagin kept searching until he had a glimpse of light and saw the way the Lord helped him to see that man is a spirit, has a soul and lives in a body (1Thess 5:23). He also taught that the spirit is the heart. The Lord used the book of Ezekiel 36 to reveal this to Reverend Kenneth Hagin after 15 years of studying the scriptures. The heart spoken of in this case is not the one that pumps blood, but a heart that is the spirit.

(Romans 12:2) Rev. Hagin also said your soul is your mind, and your body is your physical body.

“These were all I held onto until I met Reverend Kayode Oyegoke in 2006. I was a hard core Kenyonite when I met Reverend Kayode Oyegoke. Reverend Kenyon’s thoughts and teachings around the human spirit and faith are deep. He did not have too much demonstration of the spirit like Reverend Hagin but he had the word.

E .W. Kenyon reached many more ministers because even Reverend E. Hagin read after E .W. Kenyon. It is the book of E .W. Kenyon Rev Hagin used for his doctorate in Oral Robert university. If you read Hagin’s book and check the footnotes you would see many references to Reverend E .W. Kenyon and the title of the book. Most bible schools would have to refer you to read after E .W. Kenyon.

Hearing Reverend Kayode Oyegoke teaching that the spirit is not the heart was a struggle. There is this pride Satan induces in the heart of those who read New Creation Realities, which is one of the books of Reverend Kenyon. It is the title of one of his books. Reverend Kenyon did not teach New Creation Realities with the excess that we see now. The person that was the gateway for me to learn and read Kenyon’s book was in excess. If I had met the book without that person, I would not have entered that excess.”

One thing E .W. Kenyon materials does is that it would give you milk faith in its purest form. Reverend Kenyon would make you see who you are as a Christ, who you are as a spirit. Therefore, what people generally taught as new creation realities was not really what Reverend Kenyon taught. If you read his teachings, you would see somebody who is so balanced on the Word. His teaching of faith, financial prosperity, his reverence for Jesus, his love for the body is so balanced. He pastored a church for forty years and nobody died. When anyone was dying, he would go and teach them who they were in Christ.

It is obvious the Lord raised him as an apostle. He never called himself one but it is obvious the way the New Creation Realities thought was pushed and written. The Lord must have raised him for those who would take the milk. What the milk thrives on is on what the Lord has done in our spirit.

“Having read eleven of his books through someone who was not pure, I had pride—the pride of knowledge. I stopped going to church and stopped paying tithes. Reverend Kenyon did not teach those things; it is the lust in people — the old man that has been looking for the wrong liberty that God is not the one giving — that takes those thoughts and goes into excess. He did not teach that people should not give tithes; he preached giving and orderliness. But people who have lust take his thoughts and go in the wrong direction.

When I came to EGFM in 2006 and heard Reverend preach, there was a whole lot of destabilisation for me. I heard Reverend talk about how we needed life. My new creation mind told me I had life already and did not just have it, I was one with life. I was having issues for almost one year because of stacked up judgement, and most of it was because of my new creation excess which was not the way Reverend Kenyon taught it.

I was coming to gather knowledge, not to be saved. But the more I came, the more the thoughts expanded. When I felt like I had understood everything Reverend was saying, he would bring another perspective from one scripture and everything I had understood would come crashing down. I was coming with the wrong heart for that one year but the Lord is a bather; nobody knows how to bathe like the Lord does.”

Initially the knowledge and the  anointing were the things pulling me and I came with my knowledge of New Creation Realities. I did not have the measure of life that understanding was supposed to give me. I was not properly submitted to a church or to a pastor; I just had knowledge. I did not have the ethics of submission. So I had issues with people and left the ministry (EGFM). But when I discovered the dealings of God around me, which was God’s love, I wrote an apology letter to Reverend.”

An Insight Into the Soul and Spirit

The Lord began to teach through Reverend Kayode Oyegoke to show that the human spirit is not the heart. There is the spirit and there is the soul. The soul consists of the mind and the heart, and there is the body. Reverend Kenneth E. Hagin taught the heart as the spirit, however Reverend Kayode has often said the Lord came to him and helped him to see the soul.

It is a breakthrough for a minister to see the soul. The degree to which the soul is invisible is the degree to which the Bible is closed. How to measure a minister's ability to journey far with God in the scriptures, by the spirit, is in the ability to tell the soul.

One major thing the Lord helped Reverend Kayode and Helen Oyegoke to do in our time, with visitations of the Lord and an encounter of the ministering spirit the Lord sent to him in 1990, was to help him see the soul. If daddy saw the soul, he would be able to differentiate it from the spirit. In Genesis 1, God created the spirit and the soul.

Genesis 1:26-27

“And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. [27] So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.”

God wanted to ‘make’ man in Genesis 1:26, but He did not do it at that point. Creation started from verse 27; both ‘male and female’ were created, and ‘him’ was also created. So God created man in His own image’ refers to man's spirit.

In Genesis 2:7, God formed man from the dust of the ground. That was when God created man's body. It is the spirit that was created in Genesis 1:27. When creation as it relates with man, and not earth, is being mentioned, it refers to God creating two aspects of man; God created man's spirit and man's soul. But He formed man's body.

2 Corinthians 5:17 speaks about the New Birth, when our spirit is recreated.

Ephesians 4:24

“And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.”

This is speaking about the spirit. The spirit is created in righteousness and true holiness, but Apostle Paul is saying the Ephesians brethren should put on the new man that has been created. The soul should put it on. The previous verse says to put off the old man. The spirit does not put off and put on, it is created. The spirit lives or dies instantly, but the soul can put on or put off.

It is the spirit of man that is being described as: “In the image of God created He him…”Spirit is neither male nor female. The concept of a spiritual spouse does not align with scriptures. ‘Him’ in Genesis 1:27 does not imply sexes. When sexes was mentioned in Genesis 2, it meant man and woman. ‘Him’ refers to Adam; it is neither a male nor female spirit.

Man is different from male and female. Male and female refers to the soul; it is not talking about man or woman, it speaks of the soul type. Those who say they are male but live in a female body are liars, they do not make that mistake. The powers that are aback of it are divine. Though man has fallen, his body carrying sin, when spirit and soul come, they do not make mistakes because God and angels of high ranking tell where they enter.

Every spirit is a man. ‘In the image of God created He him’ is spirit, which is man. ‘Male and female created he them’ means the soul was created too, but there is what makes a male soul different from a female soul. ‘Male and female’ are not sexes but speak of the character of life. The flair of a girl's soul is different from a boy's soul.

Soul is male and female. And each soul, whether a male or a female soul, consists of mind and heart. The mind is like an invisible brain but is not the physical brain. The physical brain is a physical representation of an invisible one which is called the mind. The physical brain relates with the body while the mind relates with the brain.

Heart is not the spirit. The spirit is a full blown man. The upper part of the spirit is the mind — a place of laws. When a person is said to have died, the spirit and soul comes out. They are not separate, they have never been separate and will never be separate. God created them together; what separated them is a semicolon (Gen 1:27). Adam and his wife's spirit is him, but Adam's soul is male and Eve's soul is female.

So man is a spirit and he has a soul. Reverend Kayode Oyegoke has taught that there is an upper soul and a lower soul. The upper soul is the mind while the lower soul is the heart. The soul is attached to the body. The spirit and soul live in a physical body. We have the conscience inside the heart. The conscience is not in the spirit. If it was in the spirit, then it will not need to be purged.

1 Timothy 1:5

“Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned…”

The end here speaks of the goal of the commandment of faith or Christ. Christ’s teaching is a commandment. At the level of babies, we can have diverging doctrines. The reason for this is because some people hold to one aspect of the milk more than another.

There are six major truths in the milk; repentance from dead works, faith towards God, doctrine of baptisms, laying on of hands, resurrection of the dead and of eternal judgement (Heb. 6:1-2).  But the whole teaching of Christ is one commandment. That commandment is meant to cleanse, sanctify and separate the soul. When it is doing that, it is working on the mind and on the heart.

1 Timothy 1:5

“Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned…”

What the commandment or gospel of Christ should achieve is love or charity out of a pure heart but there are believers who have an evil conscience. The conscience is not in the spirit. If it was in the spirit, it means our spirit is not Christ.

Hebrews 10:22

“Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.”

The conscience is part of the things that make up the heart. Inside the heart, we have tables and conscience. Conscience is where the law of judgement is. It is possible to have a weak or evil conscience. We can also have a good and pure conscience. Our conscience is as good as the doctrine we are exposed to. Our definition of what is right is dependent on the truth we are exposed to. Conscience is part of the heart. The mind is like an invisible brain attached to the spirit upstairs that needs to be renewed.

The people who conclude that all the things written in the Old Testament are not for us in the New Testament do so because of limited understanding of what the soul is or of who the soul is.

The Nature of the Spirit and the Soul

When Adam and Eve ate of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, their spirits died. The tripartite part of man has different natures. Spirit in Hebrew is “Ruach” which means wind; while the soul is “Nephesh” which means air. In the New Testament, it is exactly the same. The spirit is “pneuma” in Greek and the soul, “psychi”. The spirit has other characteristics. Apart from being wind, it is also light (Psalms 18:28).

(Genesis 2:17) When Adam and his wife ate of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, their spirits died. Death for the spirit is disconnection from the life of God/inability to fellowship with God from the spirit/attaining unto the nature of the devil in the spirit. When Adam and Eve ate of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, Satan killed their spirit. Satan infiltrated their spirit. He put a life in their spirit that made it difficult for them to fellowship with God.

Proverbs 20:27

“The spirit of man is the candle of the Lord, searching all the inward parts of the belly.”

Spirit is candle. Adam and Eve’s spirits died instantaneously as a result of this. Potentially, because of the disobedience of Adam and Eve, every human spirit is dead. When children come to the age of accountability, evil spirits kill their spirit too and then, they will need to be born again.

Ephesians 5:8

“For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light…”

Every believer’s spirit is light. The spirit of every man was light but because of Adam’s disobedience. We died in our spirit. And because of Jesus’ obedience, anyone who believes and confesses him as the Lord will be raised. The Lord will raise that spirit and make it light.

But the soul is not light. The soul has many adjectives. One of them is that the soul is a book. Books are usually written upon.

Hebrews 8:10

“For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people…”

Hebrews 10:16

“This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them…”

Putting is writing and whatever is written upon is a book. The soul is not like the spirit which is saved instantly the day we confessed the Lord as our Saviour. But the soul and body are purchased that day. The soul is a book that needs to be written on a table.

Isaiah 1:18

“Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.”

Isaiah was talking to people who were dead in their spirit. He himself was also dead in his spirit, but in the Old Testament the lord dealt with sin in a measure. God led them in different ways to deal with sin. However, Old Testament laws and covenants could not totally deal with sin.

The soul is like a cloth that needs to be washed but the washing process is not like applying bleach. It is by reasoning as the Lord brings His word. As we think, our clothes are being washed. In another place, it says we should put off the old man; we put off clothes. This means there is a cloth the soul has worn through knowledge. We are to put it off. The soul is a book, a tablet and a cloth; the soul can be written on and can wear knowledge.

Salvation of the Soul in the Old and New Testament

Isaiah 28:9

“Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts.”

Though this scripture is the Old Testament, the principle of saving the soul is still the same. The material used to save the soul under the New Testament is different from the materials used in the Old Testament. We have had different materials in the Old Testament. The materials of the sons of God in Genesis 5 is not the same with the material in the days of Moses.

Man had fallen lower in the days of Moses, so God had to use the blood of bulls and goats for them, but He did not need that in the days of Adam, Enoch and Methuselah. For these older men, God was dealing with them with image and likeness; He could teach and preach to them. Enoch could walk with God without the shedding of the blood of rams and goats. Though he was dead in his spirit, God could still communicate things that could raise their soul. To raise the soul means to make the soul better.

Hebrews 11:5

“By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.”

Just like it was declared over Jesus, Enoch also pleased God, but it was not a “well pleasing”. What made Jesus please God was the judgement God gave him. God gave all the men in Genesis 5 things that raised their soul even though their spirits were dead.

In the days of Noah, after they came out of the ark, men began to kill animals. That was also the case in the days of Abraham, showing that there was a dwindling down. In the days of Moses, man really depreciated. At the same time, God was still dealing with men. He was still supplying materials that would save their souls, though lower than the materials they had in Genesis 5. Genesis 5 was also lower than what Adam had in the garden before he disobeyed to partake of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. After the time of Moses, God began raising prophets, particularly prophets who wrote scriptures.

In Isaiah 66, we see these prophets speaking against the killing of animals because they were helped by God to see the real meaning of killing animals. High priests needed to kill animals to enter into the Most Holy but Moses did not need it. He could enter at any time he liked because the real sacrifice and offering was of the heart, and Moses was able to walk with God at that pedigree.

All the Old Testament prophets, including David, understood the real meaning of the laws of Moses, even though they practised some of these sacrifices. Moses wrote the law but the prophets are the interpreters of the law. They interpret the true meaning of the law.

The law was really meant to save the souls of the children of Israel and make them a kingdom of priests that would come to the Outer Court, Holy Place, and then the Most Holy Place. He wanted to make all of them peculiar people but they resisted Him. When the Lord wanted to speak the law in their heart on Mount Sinai in Exodus 20, they ran away; then God put it on stones.

They could not take the original thing God wanted to do which caused God to do a lesser work in them. But those prophets, from David, were interpreting the law of Moses. The principle of saving souls are the same both in the Old and New Testament but the sacrifices, laws, and offerings are not the same.

For us in the New Testament, we are born again because of Jesus’ sacrifice and the belief in our hearts and confession of the Lord Jesus with our mouths. Though we are born again in our spirits, our souls are not yet saved.

1 Peter 1:9

“Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.”

These people had learnt Christ in 1 Peter 1:5

1 Peter 1:5

“Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.”

Salvation is everlasting life but they had learnt Christ. Their souls had been preserved to be saved but they were not yet saved.

James 1:21

“Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.”

The spirit is saved and is Christ but the soul is not. To save the soul, milk has to be administered first.

Isaiah 28:9

“Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts.”

When we are born again, the spirit is a new man but the soul is a baby in the courts of God. The first thing a baby is given is the milk of the word.

Hebrews 5:12-13

“For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. [13] For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.”

The word of righteousness is the faith of the Son. So anyone who is still using milk cannot have skill in the word of righteousness. To still be using milk is to still be learning how to use milk, that is, to obey milk. If one is still learning how to use milk, there is no way one would have expertise in the word of righteousness because anyone who is still learning how to use milk is a baby. When you have perfected using milk, you become a child in your soul.

To be weaned from the milk addresses the food, to be drawn from the breast addresses the place of the food. These are two different processes. To be drawn from the breast means to be taken away from the spiritual and physical environment that makes one get milk and prosper with it.

When we are being drawn from the breast, our natural environment might have to change, else we would not agree. All things being equal, we may want to use the principle of the milk and the environment of the milk to work the meat, which is why we need to be rendered powerless. Our degrees of yieldedness differ: some easily yield while others will use faith to contend with God. If you are in a state of mind where you feel like you miss your glory days, those days were actually childish days with the glories of a child.

The Essence of Knowledge to the Soul

The Lord comes to a person who has been weaned from the milk and drawn from the breasts with knowledge. For Adam in the beginning, God did not have to give him the knowledge of Christ or a measure of the knowledge of everlasting life. God just gave him life and the same was the case for angels.

God did not give any of the angels knowledge, they woke up with life. They woke up being beings that had life – angelic life in different measures in their different stratas. They did not have to learn to know how to live. They just woke up having life that had been deposited in them and in different strengths. Adam also woke up with life. He had everlasting life in a good measure.

Everlasting life has two sides to it: the living and the abiding. Adam had the living portion of everlasting life in him, not the knowledge, but the very life itself. God then put him in the garden to eat any tree in the garden. Adam had so much life and he had the capacity to touch life. When he and his wife ate of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, they did not need to begin to learn the knowledge of the tree. Everything on earth was one form of life.

Adam was not raised as a knowledge being, to hunt after knowledge. He was raised a life being, and every other thing was expressing a life of one sort or another. The only thing that put knowledge first was the tree of the knowledge of good and evil because it was different from every other thing.

Satan had to take man through the route of building in Isaiah 28 with his own kind of milk, his own kind of being weaned from the breasts; and he needed to give knowledge. The people he tempted in Eden were not babies, so he did not bring milk; he brought knowledge. With the height that Adam and Eve had in their soul, they did not need to pass through the realm of knowledge because they went straight for the fruit.

All things being equal, one is not meant to be able to get the fruit directly, but because Adam and Eve had so much life, they were able to connect with the fruit, particularly Adam who opened the door for Satan to kill their spirits. All of this is to say that the same principle that God used on the positive (milk given to a baby till he becomes a child and gets knowledge) was what Satan had to come with.

Now in Christ, we are born again; the spirit is a new man, the soul and body have been purchased. But we cannot automatically lay hold on Eternal Life as some people claim to have. There are ordinances of converting the soul. Though Adam did not need Satan’s milk because he was higher, all he had to do was to connect with the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

That height Adam had gave Satan access to quickly kill his spirit. Meanwhile, if a baby Christian were to eat of the same tree, nothing would have happened. We know this because Eve ate it and nothing happened to her until Adam, who had a stronger stature, ate it. Eve was deceived, but Adam was in the transgression because Adam’s eyes were fully opened much more than those of his wife (1 Tim. 2:14). It was to him God gave the commandment primarily (Gen. 2:15-17). He had enough life to activate the knowledge in the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

Now what Isaiah painted in Isaiah 28:9-10 was the same route Satan took. Over time, Adam fell, his spirit died, but he still had life in his soul and could still fellowship with God. The fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil entered into his soul in a measure, but life cannot be taken out of the soul in a moment. Over time, Satan began to kill the souls of men. It was a diminuendo from Genesis.

In Genesis 3, men were higher in their souls. By Genesis 5, they began to go down soul-wise. By the end of Genesis and into Exodus, man had really depreciated.

In the Old Testament, prophets were isolated sons whom God raised in different generations to interpret the law. Most times, the prophets called the children of Israel, not the sons of Israel. It is these children of Israel that Isaiah was prophesying to that, for a child to take knowledge, he must be weaned from the milk and drawn from the breast, after which knowledge is given.

This tells us that knowledge is key.

Knowledge here is not just referring to the knowledge of the Bible or the Torah in their days. In Isaiah 28:10, the prophet had to emphasise that precept must be upon precept, and line upon line. Line is a path to walk or doctrine. Doctrine is line or way of life, but you do not give a person a way of life if such a person has not been given knowledge.

Knowledge is not just reading the Bible even though this is good, as Paul admonished Timothy (1 Tim. 4:13). Knowledge is the systematic laying of the wisdom of God that will give rise for doctrine. Knowledge is a commanded knowledge.

We have two kinds of knowledge in the Bible:

1. The knowledge of Christ

2. The knowledge of God or the Father

And both types of knowledge are commanded.

1 Timothy 1:5

“Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned…”

Romans 16:26
“But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith…”

The knowledge of Christ is a knowledge that Jesus commanded. It is a particular knowledge that Jesus gave to Paul, which could also be found in the mouths and epistles of Apostles Peter, James, Jude, and John; they all had the same thing. Knowledge is not just scriptures, though knowledge is in the scriptures.

The Difference Between Knowledge and Doctrine

Knowledge is the scriptures interpreted according to the commandment of Christ (if it is the knowledge of Christ) or according to the commandment of everlasting life (knowledge of the Father).

Knowledge is commandment because it is not man’s choice. When we read the epistles, we hear commandments. Even in the milk, Jesus gave commandments. For example, in Acts 1, Jesus commanded the disciples.

Christ knowledge is a commanded knowledge, and if it is so, it means the Lord has to come to give it. He came and gave it to Paul in Acts 26:17-18 and Paul met Peter, James the Lord’s brother, and John (Gal. 2:2). He met these three and showed them the gospel of Christ and the doctrine of Christ. There are two sides to it. The knowledge is the gospel or the good news while the doctrine is the lifestyle.

So gospel and doctrine are two sides of one thing: one side is the knowledge while the other side is the life that one needs to understand. If one does not have the commandment, such will not have the lifestyle. Also, if one does not have the knowledge, such would not have the lines, that is, the life.

Godliness is “God-lines”; holiness is “holy-lines” or “holy ways”. That is the path we should walk. This puts a great burden on us to give attention to knowledge. Jesus told His disciples to take heed of how they hear because if one hears the wrong thing, it can spoil such a person (Lk. 8:18). We have to be wise about what we hear because we can hear things that would muddle up the activity of the Spirit of God to show us doctrine.

Doctrine is from the word “doctor”, and it is healing. It is through doctrine the Lord shows us how we need to walk for correction of nature.

Many times we graduate from just knowing scriptures to coming into commandment or knowledge, but we do not prosper in coming into doctrines because we listen to different things. According to the Bible, particularly the epistles, we ought to just focus on one thing.

Romans 16:17

“Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them.”

Anyone who behaves contrary to the doctrine possibly has a contrary knowledge.

Blessings!
