Any form of godliness that is not tied to the writing of the law of godliness in our hearts is without form and denies the power of godliness (2 Tim. 3:5). Our godliness is not only a filthy rag but is also unacceptable by God. The soul is a key part of man. The reason the gospel was given is so that the soul can be saved (Heb. 10:39; 1 Pet. 1:9). It is going to be difficult for a program that is not written in the soul to influence the flesh of a man.
The process of salvation requires God’s mercy and His oracles. We need to be able to identify the difference between the three compartments of man. At the New Birth, what we celebrate is the receiving of Christ (regeneration of the human spirit). As we expose our souls to God’s word afterwards, we expect a transformation.
In Romans 8, Paul was referring to experiences he had as a believer, not as an unbeliever. Also, when he spoke about having the mind of Christ (1 Cor. 2:16), he was referring to a series of experiences that had led him to that point. If we are unable to accurately see the soul, we will mistakenly call actual repentance sin consciousness.
Sin is still operating in the life of a man who recently became born again (just as it is in those who have been born again for a long time). This is because Satan has placed a blanket on the souls of men. The place of ministry is tied to the soul. One thing that is common to old time revivalists that is lacking in recent revelational people is that the former had certain encounters that left an indelible mark in their souls.
If the process of transformation and formation of Christ does not occur in our souls, there is no essence of preaching the gospel. We must first be followers of Christ (1 Cor. 11:1) for the authority to lead others to be conferred upon us.
Jesus asked Peter to feed His lamb and His sheep (John 21:15-17). As ministers of the gospel, God needs to save our souls. Paul’s ministry was summarized as repentance (Acts 26:18). As a minister, one cannot give what one does not have. Our salvation is the salvation of the entire world. There is no declaration without first encountering Him. There must first be a turning in our souls for there to be a turning around us.
There have been great revivals before now but as we get close to the coming of the Lord when the Church will be presented blameless (Jude 1:24), the components of the Head of the Church will be put in the Church. There are ministers of the gospel that have been given the ministry of bringing forth secrets. These secrets can only be assimilated by us when our hearts are being reprogrammed. It is after the reprogramming that we are able to walk in the reality of the things that have been written in our hearts.
